Exercise 250701

Seven years now

since you departed.

Alone, it must

have been terrifying.

You looked asleep

within your coffin.

Your waxy skin

cold and still.

The gathering, old

faces, and forgotten

few still alive.

We shared what

we could in

honour of you.

Your casket was

heavy as we

footed it to

your final resting

place. Now on

this, your birthday,

the family commemorates.

And obligation compels

me to join

in. And praise

your life and

how much missed

you are. But

nothing much has

really changed. And

the sun drags

itself westward home.

I enjoy solo wargaming and writing. The first caters to the boy that never grew up; the latter satisfies a deep desire to communicate. Cheers.
